There are some amazing shows, movies, books, comics and a whole bunch of other things out there, check out this week’s Fandom Card.

Franchise: The Muppets and Works of Jim Henson

Fandom Name: Hensonites

Type of media: Movies, TV Series, Comics, Cartoons

What’s it about: The works of Jim Henson is as wide and varied as the hundreds of characters him and his company has created. He had his hand (literally) in so many projects, from Yoda in Star Wars, to creatures in The Dark Crystal, to the space aliens in Farscape and of course his most well know creations, the Muppets. The Muppet movies and TV series follow the shenanigans of various felt puppets. They often star cameos from various celebrities of the time and have been a force for change. There are more innocent Muppet like that found on Sesame Street and more adult minded Muppet that usually star in more adult orientated movies like “The Muppet’s Take Manhattan”. They often sing, dance, and usually work towards a common goal.

Where can you check it out (Officially):

There are too many Jim Henson projects to list, however some of the most recent Muppet franchises can be seen at these places:

Netflix, Hulu, Various Local TV Providers

Where to start:

If you have never seen any Muppets before, depending on your age will depend on where you should start. If you are considered a Baby Boomer, we recommend starting with the original Muppet Movie (1979) as many of the celebrates would not be recognized by a younger audience. If you consider yourself a Millennial, we recommend starting with The Muppets (2014).

If you enjoy a good classic tale told by the Muppets, we recommend A Muppet’s Christmas Carol

If you want to steer away from the Muppets but want to see the awesome job Jim Henson’s creature workshop can do we also have some recommendations:

If you are into Sci-fi we recommend checking out Farscape

If you like your Fantasy we recommend Jim Hensons’s The Storyteller
